Your why, how, and external links are very clear and well done. Your 'why' leaves no question as to the mission and goals of your project. Your 'external links' looks like it has everything a student and teacher needs to successfully implement and take part in the GLP. It is also very well organized, easy to look through quickly, and separates different resources effectively. I just have one question pertaining to your 'how' section. What type of media or tool will students use to share written information?
Thanks for the feedback, Jeremy... the draft you saw was actually a first draft. I revised it significantly after some feedback from the professor. I just posted the updated version.
Wow, Jody, this looks like a fascinating project and tailor-made for a GLP. Using the Voicethread makes perfect sense as both a repository of the experiences of immigrants and as a way for students to practice their English. You handouts are simple but thought-provoking. I can see where this project could be a real blessing to anyone immigrating to the United States or elsewhere as they share common experiences as they struggle to blend in and yet maintain their dignity and identity. Your avatar is cute and clearly explains the purpose of the site. I wish I were teaching something that so naturally lends itself to a GLP like you do. I look forward to seeing your finished project.
Jody, I really like your GLP site content. It is clear and focused and you offer so many resources and support tools for both the teachers and the students who will be participating. I see that one of the projects is that they will have to write an essay regarding the 3 important things they brought to America and you provided a handout for them. Do they have to use this one or is it optional. Can they write less than five paragraphs? I guess my question is, will there be flexibility in how they complete their essay? Also, I was wondering if there is a timeline that they have to abide by? Is there an end date? I also can't wait to see your GLP, it sounds great!
Jody, I feel you give very specific details about what your project entails and what your participants will be doing. I love that you use 'voice" in more than one way (speaking, writing, listening). My question, and I may have missed this, is when your EL students post to Voice thread, you mentioned they can learn from each other and "interact". Besides the forum posts, will there be any oral interaction via the threads that go beyond reading their essays and sharing their story? I am just wondering because I wonder what will happen if they want to start having discussions with each other that are not so scripted. Is this part of the project, or will this only be done on the forums?
I just wondered how broad you anticipate their discussions to go ... :)
